Proposed Title of Project: Hamilton Middle School Website
Please give a brief description of proposed project:
Introduction
In order to enhance parent/teacher/student communication, I will design and develop a Hamilton Middle School Website. This communication will take place by each teacher having control of their individual pages so that they might post homework, projects, and classroom requirements for parents and students to view at home or other remote sites. The Site will have administration, staff, sports, ASB, Site council, and events main pages. While the main purpose of the Site is for communication, it will also be designed to be informative of upcoming events such as testing, field trips, and ASB functions.
Literature Review
Three areas of literature that will be the focus of this investigation are: Use of Websites in an elementary/middle school setting; communications among teachers, students, and parents; and online and Website development.
Method
The analysis plan of this project will use focus group and survey methods. My focus groups will consist of administration, staff, and students. These groups will seek to determine the most efficient method of communicating and feasibility of designing and developing a Website to meet the communication needs of the Hamilton Middle School, parents, and students.
Parents will be surveyed at the Hamilton Site Council so that parent’s interest in a Website may be determined. Also, a survey will be sent home so that a percentage of homes with Internet access may be determined, as well as opportunity for parental/student comments will be offered. Student surveys will be conducted within the typical computer lab instruction time. This is to determine the number of students who have Internet capabilities and to also determine how many students will actually be able to use the project that I am proposing to design and develop.
All of the information gathered from the surveys, focus groups, staff, and administration will serve to assist in the development process. Also, the research conducted in chapter 2 will also guide the development of my project.
As the target audience for the project is the staff, administration, parents, and students of Hamilton Middle School, I will develop at least two prototypes that these persons may test and offer feedback. I will place the first prototype on my personal domain so that it may be accessed at Hamilton and at remote sites.
After I receive the feedback from the target audience, I will determine what changes need to be made to best serve the needs of the target audience. Also, as I research further, I will also make adaptations to my project.
When the alpha prototype has been tested and found to function as designed, I will begin beta testing. Here I will have the middle school students determine my project’s ease of use.
Conclusion
This project will seek to improve the communications among staff, parents, and students at Hamilton Middle School. Hamilton is in a low socio-economic, rural, mountainous community in Riverside County. I desire to create a project that will serve to develop a line of communication for the staff, parents, and students.
